About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Google India's Search Infrastructure team in Bengaluru. You'll work on the systems that power search for billions of users worldwide — building high-throughput, low-latency services that process millions of queries per second.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility role where you'll have significant ownership over critical infrastructure. You'll collaborate with world-class engineers across Google's global offices and have access to cutting-edge internal tooling and infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in ambiguity, has strong first-principles thinking, and cares deeply about both technical excellence and user impact. You don't just write code — you shape the systems and culture of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript, serving 50M+ users globally.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Data Science to define technical requirements and architecture.
- Lead code reviews and mentor junior engineers on best practices in distributed systems and cloud-native development.
- Drive performance optimization initiatives — identify bottlenecks, implement solutions, and measure impact through A/B testing.
Requirements
Must Have
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong fundamentals in computer science.
- Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript; strong understanding of async programming, event loops, and Node.js internals.
- Hands-on experience with React (v18+) and modern frontend tooling (Vite, Webpack, ESBuild).
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design patterns (REST, gRPC, GraphQL).
- Experience with GCP or AWS — Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, or equivalent services.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL or similar RDBMS at scale.
- Excellent communication skills — you can explain complex technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration at production scale.
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical blog/speaking experience.
- Familiarity with ML model serving infrastructure or data pipelines.
